BROADER LEARNING

EmpowerOwl has launched a new initiative called ‘Broader Learning’ where the aim is to steer slightly away from the traditional curriculum and conduct a more holistic approach which  encourages more critical thinking, versatility in voicing own opinions and sharing thoughts in essays and open discussions with other students. Our ‘Broader Learning Sessions’ are open to students from all ages and will include discussing broader texts such as poems, plays and books that aim to entice the mind and trigger thought-provoking discussions! Students will have a chance to voice their opinions without fear of being judged or adhering to a strict curriculum; they will be free to discuss topics from their own unique perspective and with the help of their tutor, will learn how to craft their responses in structured and coherent forms whether that be for essay writing or public speaking.  We aim to build confidence, charisma and analytical skills that will allow students to be successful in whatever field they enter. The skills learnt will not only help students become successful in their academics but become more better well-rounded individuals who can contribute more to their own communities and society in general.

Aims and Objectives

To develop critical thinking and analytical skills

During these sessions, students will be encouraged to critically analyse literature and establish various solutions to a variety of issues.

They will learn vital skills necessary for A-Level and University, as at this stage students are expected to adhere to a diverse range of sources and extracts and be able to present their opinions in reports and essays.

To improve problem-solving skills

Students will be provided with numerous issues and questions to solve and discuss during workshops regarding literature and explore a wide scope of real-world matters such as social, political, and economic matters.

Examples include; thought-provoking articles, texts, and current news affairs.

To encourage new ways of thinking and considering different perspectives

Students will be welcomed to acknowledge and learn about different thinking-processes during class, as well as learning how to tackle subjects from multiple perspectives and angles.

To develop communication and presentation skills

Our interactive discussions intend to develop confidence by giving students the opportunity to showcase their opinions and ideas, in a welcoming and enjoyable learning environment

Our workshops will also allow students to present their assigned projects either individually or with groups and communicate their understanding and research of literature or homework.
